Team Impact and Outreach

The Titanium Knights robotics team often attends and creates events throughout the community in order to recruit team members, teach children, and, most importantly, encourge students to find a passion with STEAM.

Description of Events in the 2019-2020 Calendar

May:
Week of the 12th - Outreach and Recruiting Event at Parent Partnership
Organization Picnic

• The Parent Partnership Organization Picnic is an annual event to welcome the incoming freshmen class to the Bergen County Academies. Almost every freshman attends and lots of clubs set up booths to advertise. We set up our own booth, hand out flyers, take down names and contact information and demonstrate our robot. Last year we got a list of more than 50 freshmen and their parents who were interested in robotics. With these contacts, we informed them about our events and next season’s team. Many of the freshmen currently on the team were recruited at this event

Week of the 26th - Outreach Event at annual Ridgewood Run
• Ridgewood Run - At this annual event, we set up a booth and talk to people
about FIRST and our robot. We also give demonstrations of our robot.

Week of the 26th - Outreach Event at Middle School Technology Expo at the Sa-
cred Heart School in Lyndhurst

• Middle School students at Sacred Heart School in Lyndhurst attended a Tech-
nology Expo organized by our team. At the expo, there were presentations by

the robotics team, as well as chemistry, physics, and Arduino interactive

demonstrations. The purpose of this event was to raise awareness for FIRST Ro-

botics and spark interest in STEM.

August:
Week of the 11th - Arduino and Robotics Class in Hohokus at Kids2Kids

• Several team members volunteered to teach basic Arduino coding and ro-
botics to younger kids. At the end of the class, the kids were able to build their

own robot and take it home! Through this class, we hoped to share our

knowledge with a younger generation. The class also raised funds for our ro-
botics team.

October- Reached out to engineering and physics teachers for assistance
Week of the 20th - Outreach at BCA Open House
• Bergen County Academies Open House is an annual event where students
across Bergen County come to learn more about BCA. Several of our members
in the engineering academy represented the robotics team at the open house
event to promote awareness of the robotics club at BCA and interest potential
freshmen in the team.

November:
Week of the 3rd - Started meetings
Week of the 10th - Mentored FLL Team in Oradell
• Two members of the team mentored the FLL Team #46080 in Oradell ahead

of their competition that weekend. We observed their robot perform and
judged their skit and their research project. As a first year team, they needed
some guidance, but they were very enthusiastic.

2020 (Planned)

January:
Week of the 5th - County League Region-Saturday Qualifier (Northern Blast)

May:
Week of the 10th - Outreach Event at annual Ridgewood Run
Week of the 17th - PPO Picnic

Week of the 31st - Host FLL Jr. Expo
• At an FLL Jr. Expo, teams present their research and model to judges. There

are also fun activities for the students along with Titanium Knights robot
demonstrations. With this Expo, we hope to provide a rich experience for those
in kindergarten to third grade by allowing them to attend and present at a real
event and to promote FLL Jr. among parents, coaches, and teachers and
demonstrate the benefits of these programs on students’ lives

Outreach Review and Goals
This year we achieved our goal of mentoring at least one FLL team and one
FLL Jr. team. We have started and developed relationships with FLL team
#46080 and FLL Jr. teams #10554, #14468, and #19127. This is a great start and
our goal for next season is to mentor at least three FLL teams and three FLL Jr.
teams. Hosting the FLL Jr. Expo will help us to begin mentoring a few new
teams.
In terms of events, hosting the FLL Jr. Expo is very notable and we hope to
expand on this in the future while also continuing our other events such as the
Ridgewood Run and PPO Picnic. Furthermore, we aim to add more events that
could serve as both outreach and fundraising opportunities, such as the
Kids2Kids classes.
Finally, we hope to develop our social media presence during this season
and in between this season and the next. We have an Instagram account, are
working on our website that will soon be published and have started to look at a Youtube account.
